Croatia, an European country lying amidst the Mediterranean Sea and Central Europe and the country is located in a strategic position as it shares its ge0ographical terrain with many other important countries, like Slovenia, Bosnia, Serbia and many more. From its age old history the country has been a vital focal point for invasions. These invasions has influenced in different aspects of its status quo; may it be political or cultural. From different aspects the rapid invasions have molded Croatia's cultural facets into different foreign aspects. In this way the food habits of Croatia has also got transformed. Here we are going to look into the history of Croatian food.

The immense invasion of different countries in Croatia have left a mark on its food habits. The country had been invaded by the Turks and during their rule they brought food like sarma; the Greeks introduced foods made up of grapes; the Italians when invaded Croatia and settled introduced recipes dominated by pastas and finally different sorts of meat preparations were brought by the Hungarians in Croatia.
Lets start with the Sarma; this has been brought by the Turks in Croatia. This particular dish is one of the most mouthwatering one. It is prepared by meat, which is mixed with rice, onion, garlic, ginger and salt. The whole mixture is then rolled in long leaves like cabbage leaves or other and finally the stuffed item is either fried or steamed.
Secondly the Greek culture is reflected into Croatian food by the inclusion of grapes in some of the dishes. Grapes are the dominating elements in most of the Greek's dishes and with the invasions of the Greek's into Croatia grapes have also become the dominating elements in most of the Croatian dishes. In several Croatian deserts like, mostly in pancakes grapes are the main ingredients.
Like other countries, Croatia is also important for its different meat preparations. Most of these meat preparations have been brought by the Hungarians. The most acclaimed meat recipes that you can get hold of while your stay in Croatia are, Sausage and Potato Casserole, Mushroom soup with buckwheat, quick bean stew and many more.
