Croatian Wedding

The country of Croatia, which was known as the Republic of Croatia is situated at the crossroads of the Mediterranean and Central Europe. Croatia has its land borders with Bosnia and Herzegovnia on the south as well as on the east, Serbia on the east, Hungary and Slovania on the north and Montenegro to the south and it also shares its sea borders with Italy to the West.

Regarding the Croatian Wedding or the wedding traditions of Croatia, it could be said that the wedding traditions of this place is unique in all possible ways. Now, coming to the bride’s mother, according to the norms of the rituals associated with the wedding of this country, the mother of the bride arranges for a bridal party at her home, before the commencement of the marriage ceremony. The bride’s mother holds up a cup filled with honey for the reason that they belief that a cup of honey represents good will. What follows, is that coins are thrown into the cup and these coins are given to the groom, only after the groom and bride finish their drink.

It is to be noted that it is the duty of the bride’s father to place a string made out of pearls around the head of his daughter and the relatives as well as the members of the family later unveil the bride and help her to get dressed up in an apron and a scarf.

The most important tradition that is linked to the wedding day is that the bride’s family puts up obstacles for the groom and his bride so that they are not able to arrive at the church. However, after the marriage ceremony comes to an end, the wedding party thrice circles a well as they toss apples in it while they make a wish for the newly wed couple so that they live in peace and happiness forever.

When the bride prepares to leave her old home, she is supposed to throw an apple over her house and after the bride steps into her new home, she is required to move thrice around a warm hearth.

Thus, these are the traditions related to a wedding in Croatia. tourstocroatia offers all information on Croatian Wedding.
